Be Eco Friendly and Choose Digital Dye Sublimation

What is Dye Sublimation Process?

Because the process involves turning a solid directly to a gas, there is no water need for dyeing. Compared to screen printing where mass amount of water is  consumed to dye which results in polluted water wasted and ground contamination, dye sublimation creates ZERO water waste.
No toxins are used in Dye Sublimation, thus this printing method protects both workers and the environment.

Compared to traditional screen printing, cleaning up uses mass amounts of water and chemicals. The end result is polluted water and ground contamination.

If you need other clothing accessories and prefer the Dye Sublimation process, M & M Professionals offers a complete set of Dye Sublimation uniform.

6 Benefits of Digital Dye Sublimation over Conventional Methods

Digital Dye sublimation is a digital printing technology that enables the reproduction of colorful images on common everyday items, including clothing and novelties. Prior to digital printing, reproducing images on these items (T-shirts being a typical example) required fairly involved labor intensive process.

1. Saves Time

The modern dye sublimation process is quite simple in comparison to conventional methods. You create an image on your computer, print it onto special transfer paper using sublimation inks, and then apply the paper with the image to the item to be decorated. Using a heat press, the transfer paper is pressed onto the surface at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which then causes the sublimation inks to “transfer” from the paper to any polymer fibres within the substrate. After less than a minute, the heat is removed and the transfer paper is peeled off, leaving behind a permanent, full colour image on the substrate. The whole process can take less than 20 minutes from design through to production.

2. Saves Space

Suitable printer types for dye sublimation work can range from a small desktop toner- or inkjet-based printers to medium-format inkjet printers. No longer are multiple, large printers required for printing to various materials.

3. Less Waste

Whilst digital dye sublimation printing does often involve the waste of the transfer paper (as the paper offers limited opportunities for re-use), reduced wastage occurs in the ability to produce both short and long runs of a required print.

Designs can effectively be “made to order” or samples can be produced conveniently and efficiently without having to waste extra materials or substrates.

4. Reduced Energy

Digital dye sublimation technology is constantly evolving and with this evolution comes even more efficient ways to sublimate. Earlier models required the user to physically change the inks to keep the print run going, but recent models such as the Texart XT-640 allow for unattended ink switching – no longer is the machine running idle until the ink has been switched but it can continuously run for hours of uninterrupted printing.

Furthermore, digital inkjet sublimation printing, in comparison with screen-based processes, requires minimal post-print washing. Printing with sublimation inks brings the advantages of easy wash, quick dry, and reduced creasing properties to significantly reduce the impact on the environment.

5. Costs Less

Analogue printing technology is not cost-effective when small quantities are involved, due to the immense amount of time preparing the artwork and the equipment for the production process. Therefore, if all you need is one, or even half a dozen items printed, analogue printing is going to be expensive and time-consuming.

With the introduction of inkjet printers in the 90’s, sublimation ink was formulated to work with various models of standard off the-shelf desktop units. Using a relatively inexpensive printer, a computer and a heat press, anyone can now produce full-color transfers cheaply and easily. The end result is a rapid conversion from analogue to digital printing techniques and from a world of mass production to mass customisation and personalisation.

6. Flexibility of Production

Digital printing, especially dye sublimation printing, is quick and inexpensive in both the setup and production, making it an ideal choice for creating personalised, one-of-a-kind items or for mass producing a variety of custom products. Moreover, dye sublimation printing yields beautiful and permanent colours that are embedded in the substrate or fabric, rather than printed on the surface. Images on fabric won’t fade or crack even after multiple washings. Images on hard substrates will not chip, peel or scratch.

Impact to the Worker and Environment

The textile industry uses more than 8000 chemicals in various processes. What is great about the dye-sublimation process is how it is safe for the environment and the worker. Dye sublimation is the most environmentally friendly, sustainable process possible in garment printing and production. It produces ZERO water waste. In addition to garment, Dye Sublimation is also used for other promo merchandise branding, such as Aprons, Bandana, Caps, Cooler Bags, Cotton Bags, Drawstring Bags, Lanyards, Laptop Sleeves, Polo Shirts, Screen and Lens Cleaning Cloths, Sports Towels.

Logo Branding Options for Your Team Uniform

Premium Embroidery

Embroidery is the creation of images and logos on material with a succession of strategically placed stitches using coloured thread.

As a result, this decoration technique is costed based on the number of stitches used to create the image. This will be influenced by overall size and detail of the branding being applied.

A maximum of 9 thread colours per embroidery position/location is standard. Please enquire if you require more colours.

Due to this technique using solid colour threads, images with graduated shading are not suitable for embroidery.

PMS (Pantone Matching System) colours are generally used as a reference to ensure embroidery colour accuracy.

Whilst we acheive amazing detail on our embroidered garments - we suggest that text be kept to a minimum height of 5mm, and width of 3mm, to ensure legibility.

Dye Sublimation

Dye Sub is the process of printing your artwork design directly into White polyester fabric using specialised textile printing equipment and inks.

The print is then bonded directly to the fabrics fibres using heat and pressure. The resulting image is durable, vibrant and soft to handle.

Using the CMYK print method, the print process can not guarantee PMS colour matching.

As we print the fabric before it is cut to create your garment, we can custom print the entire garment, enabling up to full garment print coverage with huge creative possibilities. Dye Sub printing is generated digitally, so it is perfectly suited to personalising apparel with names and numbers. Ideal for sports team.

Dye Sublimation inks are translucent - so are best printed on white 100% polyester fabric to ensure accurate, bright colours. Whilst we can print on other light coloured fabrics, colour accuracy can not be guaranteed.

Screen Printing

Screen printing uses a series of fine screens (or mesh stencils) to lay ink onto the surface of your garment.

Multiple screens are alligned (or registered) to ensure precise replication of your logo and brand artwork.

The Spot colour inks can be Pantone matched to replicate your brand colours.

Traditionally the process was called silkscreen printing because silk was used to create the mesh.

Once the design is complete, it is cured in a dryer to increase resillience.

Our standard screen printing size is up to A4 size. We can provide bigger screen prints. Dye Sublimation is an alternative if larger prints are required.

Hybrid

Our range of Hybrid clothing includes a mix of Dye Sublimated printing as well as Embroidery and/or Screen Printing.

They also incorporate a mix of fabric colours. White (For the Dye Sublimation panel/s) and your choice of Pot Dyed material colours, of the same weave/style, for the rest of the item.

Normally Dye Sub apparel can't be embroidered as the embroidery needle pulls through the underlying white fabric.

Our Hybrid garments have only selected panels decorated with Dye Sublimation -  The rest of the item (being made of Dyed Fabric) can then have embroidery or screen printing applied as needed.

This mix of manufacturing processes also allows for options like Knitted Collars and Cuffs if desired.
